Dear Shayne,
You know my crazy plan to make a shiny mud ball? Yeah, well.
FAIL.
Apparently my mud ball was not dry enough when I left it out of its plastic bag all day today. I came home to find what you see above.
I guess I should appreciate this interesting effect, but I'm just bummed right now. All that work for nothing. Poo.
I probably won't try again. Dorodango is a jerk.
I'm going to go knit now.
love,
kelly

awwww. so sad...yet such a relief i bet. it's over! ding dong the durodango is dead and all that. no more polishing mud!
sorry. i still don't get how this works but good on you for trying.
Wow, just went back and read the original post. What a wild process! I am so sorry that your first attempt seemed to fail, yet I wonder what would happen if you gently peeled off the bits that have curved away. Might you be left with a nice ball, that you could then polish?
If not, I admire this attempt and think you should try one more time! It is very cool!
Thanks for the condolences!
Victoria -- In answer to your question, the inner ball was too dry and dusty. It was actually kind of interesting to see that that's what was inside, when the outer shell was so hard. When I picked up the inner ball, it immediately started to crumble.
So I chucked it off of our back deck.
It made a big splat.
I took a picture.
Perhaps I will try again... but not for a little while. I think I need to stick to crafts I know for a bit. ;)
Oh wow! It actually looks like a delicious little chocolate truffle. Except it's not :) Sorry it didn't work out - they can't all be winners, I guess.
