Happy New Year!

Dear Shayne,

This year, I waited too long to make Christmas cards and then ended up sending them as New Year cards. Sigh.

I even thought my plan to make postcards was just brilliant, since it would save me the insanity of making my own envelopes like I did last year and the year before. But it didn't help. I still got behind and had to send them out late. C'est la vie.

I used thick bookboard from Paper Source and cut it down to 4x6 inch rectangles. It made a very satisfying giant stack, I must admit:

I found a sheet of scrapbook paper with snowflake cut-outs to use as a mask. Then I went to town with the spray paint.

I like the way they came out, although I probably would have done more with them if I had left myself more time.

It's funny to me that I have used a snowflake motif on our cards for the last two years even though it does not snow where we live. Huh. I guess the "White Christmas" image is just something I cannot shake!

love,
kelly

I love the idea of postcards instead of 'traditional' holiday cards! I've always been on the hunt for some with a holiday-ish motif, but to no avail. Never even occurred to me to make my own. Duh! Thank goodness I have you for inspiration. Will flag this one for next year. Oh, and Happy New Year!

Oh, Sutter! Of course you're the first to comment here... I wasn't going to make this post yet because I thought, "Well, my far-away friends haven't gotten their cards yet and I don't want to spoil it for them..." and then I thought, "Aw, who reads this thing anyway?"

As it turns out, you do! So you'll be seeing one of these in your mailbox at some point in the next few weeks! (Consider this a preview?)

I think sending New Years postcards is a wonderful idea! It must have been done long ago, because I have several vintage New Year postcards from around the early 1900's. I wonder when it fell out of favor? Maybe you will be the one to resurrect the tradition!

Dear Shayne and Kelly,

Came across your blog though a link of a link. That was last monday and today I have finally back tracked all the way to the very first posting (good thing nobody at work noticed...). To think the 'glue incident' was the very first post!!! It was well worth it, hehehehe...

I've never seen skeleton and skulls caraft before, they were pretty cool. And you guys got some pretty fun and whacked out ideas too. Will definitely look forward to future postings.

You girls rock!

I love that you did these on bookboard - so nice and heavy - and will work great as a decoration for next year.

Oh, the glue incident!!!!!!!! I always manage to do something stupid :)
