WiP: Memory quilt (hand basting)

Dear Shayne,

I haven't said much lately about this quilt... mostly because I haven't been doing anything with it.

But last weekend, I finally laid it out to hand baste it. I was too lazy to change the lens on my camera when I took this photos, so let's call them "arty," shall we?

(You already know what it looks like anyway, right?)

It mostly fit on the dining room table, so that's what I used. Hand basting is incredibly time consuming -- it took me about 5 hours. Wow.

(See the lovely afternoon sun? Arty!)

Now I'm ready to start the quilting! I'll post some photos along the way, as that will be something I'm working on for awhile.

After the quilting is done, I still have to do the binding. I'd like to finish by Christmas of this year. Wish me luck!

love,
kelly

Upon reading " 5 hours of hand basting", I think I blacked out for a second. The smallest bit of hand-stitching makes me woozy and...that is a lot of basting, lady!

It's going to be lovely when you're done though. Can't wait to see the next step!

Oh my gosh, I think I'd rather gouge my eyes out than hand baste for five hours!

Seriously, it looks great. Your MIL will be so pleased.

I'm probably going to be doing a similar project. My dad was a big fan of the Hawaiian shirt (more so the style rather than the print) - the uglier the better. So my mom and I were thinking of making a quilted throw for her, me, my sister.

The quilt is looking gorgeous... with all of the work and heart you're putting into it, it's bound to turn out amazing. I think this is my favorite quilt I've ever seen!
